My Doula journey began without me being aware that the support I was offering had a name. I supported friends at their births with the promise to stay present and create a safe space.
It was a midwife who informed me that I was a Doula.
After training with Nurturing Birth in 2007 I worked as a Doula for ten years. In this time I also wrote and facilitated a workshop for birth workers on baby loss. ‘Supporting Every Birth’.
My main focus now is mentoring. It is where I feel my skills and experience are best used. My mentoring style is relational and I give of myself fully. I see it as being your Doula – so creating a safe space, listening attentively and asking questions to draw out what your instincts are saying. I love to see individual Doulas finding their own rhythm and style.
