I was honoured to be asked to mentor for Nurturing Birth. I had no hesitation in accepting.
Having been a doula since 2006 I am passionate about supporting and empowering women both in their birth journeys and postnatal period. I am equally passionate about supporting and empowering doulas in their journeys.
Being a mentor was initially about giving back to the doula community. What I hadn’t anticipated was how much I would grow from supporting doulas. For me mentoring is about creating a safe environment where doulas can share and explore all aspects of their birth work. It is about doulas getting to know themselves and gaining the confidence to be the doula that they want to be. Just like mothering, there is no right or wrong way to be a doula. The mentoring process is a period where you can begin to discover your doula style.
