Honouring the Moon

I love the work of this Red Bubble artist, The Paper Crane. This particular design resonates so much, with the cycles of the moon so closely linked to all things doula.
Red Bubble is a website which prints-on-demand, so you can choose to have this (or any other design) printed onto anything from t-shirts to mouse mats to phone cases.
The Paper Crane is a work-from-home dad and each sale supports him and his family.

A Passion for Birth

No doula Christmas list would be complete without a birth book in it, and this one is no exception. If you’ve not yet discovered Sheila Kitzinger, now is the time! Sheila was an anthropologist with a passion for women and birth, a prolific author, feminist and women’s rights activist.
It would be hard to choose between her books, but as an introduction to Sheila, this autobiography shares with us how she came to her life’s work, and how she came to her love of birth. It’s a joyful reflection of her life, while sharing the frustrations and challenges that she overcame.
One of Sheila’s most famous quotes is, “Birth isn’t something we suffer, but something we actively do and exult in.” Exult in this beautiful book and let Sheila’s spirit inspire and delight you.

The Power of Women

This awesome t-shirt website has options to amuse all your family, but this one is fabulous as a Christmas gift for doulas. “Women are angels, but if you break our wings we will still fly: on broomsticks!”
There’s a lot of fab apparel out there, but this one really caught my eye (after I’d laughed out loud at many of her other designs!) Buying from Mystic Mackerel supports a one-woman business, rather than filling the pockets of the faceless internationals.

Birth purse for birth essentials!

Hand made by midwife Sara Wickham, these lovely birth purses show us just how little is actually necessary at a birth. Brilliant for antenatal teaching, they contain all the “essentials” that might be needed, including a “pinard” (cardboard tube), cord tie and tea bag!
Brilliant for doulas, to really help people to visualise just how little is normally needed at a birth, and the ideal Doula Christmas Gift!
The key to education

Do you feel the urge to tell people about clitori at every opportunity? In that case you’re probably a doula! Let’s face it, we can’t avoid the chance to share the knowledge about our bodies that everyone should know and so few people do.
These awesome clitoris keyrings are pretty and practical, and also are the key to some really important conversations.
